Nanyuki is located in central Kenya on the leeward side of Mount Kenya. Being so, it boasts majestic views of all three peaks of the mountain on the horizon. The surrounding areas are the central Kenyan countryside inhabited by people from a variety of different tribes such as the Agikuyu, the Embu, and the Meru among others. Development in the area has fairly advanced over the past few decades and good accommodation is easy to find. Ol Pejeta Conservancy is located in Nanyuki and is home to an assortment of animal species and is known for being the only place in the world that shelters the critically endangered northern white rhinos with only two in existence. The Sweetwaters chimpanzee sanctuary is another tourist favourite, located in the conservancy, and provides refuge to orphaned and abused chimpanzees from West and Central Africa. As the saying goes, you can find almost anything at the foot of a mountain.
